Old Testament
Pastor Roy started a new series entitled “God in the Old Testament” several weeks ago. Starting from Genesis 1, we’ve been seeing God in action in the Old Testament, learning that while the culture, emphases, and times were different in the OT, God’s nature does not change. A few things we’ve been learning recently include: God’s word is powerful beyond limit and everything God Creates is good and blessed; God’s justice is perfect, but his grace is greater by far; God is a promise-making and promise-keeping God; and God has complete mastery over all events for the fulfillment of his purposes.
The Safest Place on Earth...
Another session of small groups started in late September. Each group is reading 2 chapters a week of Larry Crabb’s The Safest Place on Earth and is learning about how the body should be a place where powerful ministering and transformation occurs between the members through the Holy Spirit. There is a lot of grappling, discussing, vulnerability-ing, and ministering going on. As the groups continue to learn together, we pray that FPC will embody the beauty of Christ’s church and be a safest place on earth.
Urbana 2006
Plans are being made for the 2006 Urbana Conference. Around 16 people are going to this year’s conference. There will be a special offering to support the Urbana attendees on November 26. We are excited to anticipate how God will bless and expand the heart for mission in our family members!
Budget Meeting
During the summer conference, we realized how important it is to use the ministry’s budget wisely and Biblically. One of the group exercises we did was to make a budget and allot funds for different uses. This past Sunday, budgeting became a reality, as there was a budget meeting after service. We saw how the ministry’s money was spent during this year. People made comments on how money was being used, and people also made suggestions on how to better use the money and how to spend the rest of the ministry’s money for this year. As our body matures in what we do as a ministry, we are also striving to mature in how we manage our finances.
